Bowrider Wakeboard
Bowrider Wakeboard

Boat Size and power to ski/wakeboard?
Im curious of peoples opinion , im thinking of buying a 16.5 foot vanguard bowrider gt with a 75 HP outboard and with 3 guys roughly 180 lbs 2 in boat and 1 wakeboarding, do you thing i would be able to get up and wakeboard with this boat? i want the efficiency of gas saving, but enough power to wakeboard, im not wanting to be hardcore out on the water just wanting to have some fun. thanks in advance
The 75 HP outboard with a LIGHT load carried on the boat might be sufficient.
However, I recommend you use a 85HP or higher outboard or inboard if you want to have a good hole shot and performance. An underpowered boat can definitely be an issue if you have a high prop pitch or have a skiier that is over average weight.
When I ski/wakeboard, I want a boat that I know for sure will pull me fast out of the hole when the driver puts the hammer down on the throttle. A boat that struggles to pull you also makes you more tired as the skiier/wakeboarder.
If you want gas savings, its best to go with using an inboard/outboard. You have to make sure they get winterized and dewinterized, but the gas savings are significant compared to gas guzzling 2 stroke outboards 85HP and up. It all depends on how much you do boating, preference, and needs.
