aren't the vhf radio and compass supposed to be 1 meter apart?
that is what i read. well my center console is only about 3 ft wide and 3'=.91 meters (approx) so does it really matter, how much does it affect the radio if they are closer than 1 meter? and why? does the compass affect the fishfinder too?
Electric motors, stereo speakers and windshield wiper motors often cause magnetic interference to the compass. Try to keep them as far as you can from the compass. Any electronics could cause a problem with the compass but speakers are the worse - the magnets will pull the compass card. To see how much they effect your compass you could remove the radio check the compass heading and then reinstall and turn on to see if it changes the compass heading.
